TOWER ROAD CHARRETTE PROJECTS



PHASE



DESCRIPTION

Phase 1

Include instreet bikelanes on Tower Road from SW 8th Avenue to W University Avenue.
Connect SW 8th Avenue to SW 20th Avenue using SW 61st Street. [requires right-of-way acquisition]
Connect SW 24th Avenue to Archer Road using SW 63rd Boulevard corridor. [requires right-of-way acquisition]
Enhance bus service in the Tower Road and SW 24th Avenue corridors.
Construct sidewalks on both sides of SW 24th Avenue, from Tower Road to SW 43rd St, at a maximum possible distance from

the roadway, where they can be constructed in a cost/effective manner that minimizes adverse impacts on the environment.

Construct roundabout on SW 24th Avenue at SW 91st Street.
Prepare a design & engineering study for offroad bicycle/pedestrian facilities.

Phase 2

Construct sidewalks on both sides of Tower Road and SW 24th Avenue, west of Tower Road, which are set back as near the edge

of the right-of-way as possible and with as many shade trees in the buffer between the sidewalk and roadway edge as possible.

Initiate construction of offroad bicycle/pedestrian facilities & continue through other phases until complete.
Prepare a study for a roundabout at the intersection of Tower Rd and W University Ave.
Restripe Tower Road with 11-foot lanes and include instreet bikelanes from W University Avenue to Newberry Road the next

time it is resurfaced.

Phase 3

Reconstruct the two-lane portion of Tower Road as an enhanced two-lane facility with:
1. landscaped medians (including shadetrees) and turnlanes;
2. instreet bikelanes with colored pavement;
3. colored-textured crosswalks when construction or resurfacing occurs; and
4. roundabouts at the following intersections: SW 8th Avenue; SW 13th Road; SW 24th Avenue; SW 42nd Avenue/

SW 41st Place; SW 46th Boulevard; and SW 53rd Place.

Phase 4

Reconstruct SW 24th Avenue as an enhanced two-lane facility with:
1. landscaped medians (including shadetrees) and turnlanes;
2. instreet bikelanes with colored pavement;
3. colored-textured crosswalks when construction or resurfacing occurs; and
4. roundabouts at the following intersections: SW 61st Street; and SW 122nd Street.

Any Phase

Develop technical information for a roundabout at the intersection of Tower Road and W University Avenue.
Where feasible, in conjunction with other corridor construction on Tower Road and SW 24th Avenue: underground utilities; and

extend GRU reclaimed waterlines.
